Ian McKellen hospitalized after falling off stage at theater

During the performance of a Shakespearean play in London, the 85-year-old actor fell seriously.

Huge shock for the public Player Kings. The play inspired by Shakespeare is currently playing at the West End, London’s English Broadway, with Ian McKellen as John Falstaff. The actor of X-Men and Lord of the Rings had a bad fall in the middle of a performance. He was hospitalized after falling from the stage.

This Monday evening, while performing a battle sequence against two other people, the 85-year-old actor lost his footing and fell into the pit in front of the stage. The audience was evacuated from the theater and the show was canceled. A representative of the theater assured that Ian McKellenwould recover quickly and completely“and that he was”in a good mood“.

“Thank you to our audience for sending their best wishes following Ian’s fall during tonight’s performance of Player Kings”, we can read in the press release. “After a scan, the brilliant team of carers assured us he would make a speedy and full recovery and Ian is in good spirits. The production has made the decision to also cancel the performance on Tuesday June 18 so that Ian can rest.

Obviously nothing serious for the British actor, but a big scare for the whole room who heard him scream and call for help. Charlie Johnson, a London-based journalist who attended the show, wrote: “I have just seen Ian Mckellan seriously injured after falling from the stage at the Noel Coward Theatre. Sir Ian could be heard screaming in pain as help rushed.”
