The Las Vegas Sphere was inaugurated this weekend.

Imagine a 160,000 m² LED flat screen with the highest LED resolution in the world and which envelops 17,000 spectators…

It’s here Sphere of Las Vegas, a titanic technological project, which was inaugurated this weekend in the Arizona desert. The group U2 had the honor of opening the venue for a huge concert lasting more than two hours.

Bono and his troupe played their biggest hits (mostly from Achtung Baby) but obviously, the interest of this concert was as much visual as musical. A dizzying spectacle was projected onto the Spherefrom floor to ceiling… up to 110 meters high.

“Being on this stage is something. You feel so small“, says the creative director of U2, in Variety. “I was laughing about it with Adam Clayton (the bassist) because it made us both think of Hammersmith Palais, a venue in London.”

After U2, place to Darren Aronofsky. The filmmaker will screen a huge animal documentary produced for La Sphère. Postcard From Earth will be presented to a select few on October 6.
