Iman Vellani doesn't care about The Marvels' box office: 'It's for Bob Iger'

“It’s for Bob Iger,” replies the actress, who has also received the support of Stephen King in the face of trolls on social networks.

In an interview given to Yahoo Entertainment, Iman Vellanithe actress playing Kamala Khan aka Miss Marvel in the eponymous series and in The Marvels, opens up about her experience with audience reception and feedback on social media. Indeed, the film is far from having won over the public at the box office by making only 47 million dollars during its first weekend in the United States, less than a third of the start of the film for which it is the sequel, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel (via The French Film).

Iman Vellani confirms that she does not let herself be affected by the failure of her film with the public: “I don’t want to focus on something that I don’t even have control over, because what’s the point? (…) It’s for Bob Iger (General Manager of The Walt Disney Company)”, she declares, confidently. The actress holds her ground and completely embraces the entertainment objective of the film.

“(The box office) has nothing to do with me. (…) I am happy with the finished product, and my loved ones liked the film. We have a good time watching it, and that’s all we ask for from these kinds of films. It’s got superheroes, it’s set in space, it’s not that deep but it’s about teamwork and sisterhood. It’s a fun movie and I’m just happy to be able to share it with people”, she explains.

The young recruit of the MCU also received unexpected support on social networks from Stephen King in person. On his X account, the writer was outraged to see so much gratuitous nastiness against The Marvels : “I don’t go to see the MCU films, I don’t care, but I find this barely masked jubilation over the low box office of THE MARVELS very unpleasant. Why rejoice in failure?”

The master of horror added by suggesting his theory on the source of this hatred: “Part of the rejection of THE MARVELS may be due to hatred from teenage fanboys. You know, “Yuck! GIRLS!” Iman Vellani appreciated the support of the novelist: “Having Stephen King on your side is pretty cool.”
