“It’s a variant of Data!” Ke Huy Quan took inspiration from The Goonies for Loki

“I feel like there are cosmic connections between this OB character and Data!”

In the wake of his Oscar for Everything Everywhere, Ke Huy Quan shone this year in season 2 of Loki, in the shoes of an eccentric TVA scientist, a genius a little out of step with the others. A character close to Data, the young cult adventurer he played in The Goonies in 1985.

Moreover, he confides that he was greatly inspired by him to bring Ouroboros, this TVA technician, to life:

“When I read the script for the first time, I immediately fell in love with Ouroboros. You immediately see who this character is: his quirkiness, his humor, his passion for his profession are obvious. Trying to refining my approach, something occurred to me. I realized that this character was familiar to me. I knew who he was… I had to go back, 35 years ago, when I played Data in The Goonies…” tell Ke Huy Quan in an interview with Variety.

The actor then explains that OB from Loki is even possibly Data in another universe, making this season 2 a sequel to Gooniesin one way :

“So many fans have come up to me asking if there will be a Goonies 2. What does Data do as an adult? This Ouroboros character is, in a way, my answer to that. I consider him a Data Variant!”

Ke Huy Quan ends up recounting that, on the first day of filming, after having his hair done and dressed, he went to the set as Ouroboros. “I look up and I see that the name of the studio where we are filming, in Pinewood, is called the “Roger Moore” set. And as we know, Data loves James Bond. The character 007 inspires him enormously .I feel like there are cosmic connections between this OB character and Data!”
