It’s been a year since James Gunn thought about Milly Alcock to play Supergirl

“She had that extra something, that grace and authenticity that we needed for Supergirl…”

She will be the new Supergirl from DC and here’s why. James Gunn explained the choice of Milly Alcock last night, on the networks.

On Threads, he tells fans that he immediately thought of her, from the start of the casting process.

“Strangely, Milly was the FIRST person I suggested to Peter Safran (co-president) for this role, over a year ago, even though I hadn’t yet read the comics! I was watching House of the Dragon and I thought she had that extra something, that grace and the authenticity that we needed for our DCU’s Supergirl. And now here we are. Life is amazing sometimes.”

James Gunn explained his film, which will be adapted from Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrowa series of comics published between 2021 and 2022 and signed Tom King:

“We see the difference with Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents since he was a baby, and Supergirl, who was raised on a rock, a remnant of Krypton after its destruction. She has seen everything the world around her dying and being killed in horrible pain for the first 14 years of her life. Then she came to Earth as a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”

No director has been signed yet. No release date announced.
