Jake Gyllenhaal forgot that Dennis Quaid already played his father in The Day After Tomorrow

Before Avalonia, the two actors had the same parentage in Roland Emerich’s disaster film.

End of 2021, in full promotion of the Disney animated film Avalonia, the strange journey, Jake Gyllenhaal had made funny revelations about his role and its unexpected link with another flagship film of his career. We are republishing his remarks on the occasion of the rebroadcast of the Next daythis Monday evening on TMC.

The Day After: Clearly, everything is upside down here (review)

In this family sci-fi film by Don Hall and Qui Nguyen, Jake Gyllenhaal double in VO the son of the Clade family and Dennis Quaid lends his voice to his dad. Or the lineage that they have already known on the screen: in The day after, the disaster film by Roland Emmerich, released in cinemas in 2004, the two actors already played, in the flesh this time, a son and his father. But Jake had obviously completely forgotten about it!

During an interview for Yahoo!when the journalist makes this remark, Gyllenhaal retorts by turning to his partner: “Oh right? Did we do that? Oh… Oh, Oh! Whoah! He was the one who played my dad.” “It’s the first time we’re in the same room. replies Quaid amused. Yes it’s me.” To which his cinema son responds: “Wow, that’s cool. We’ve done lots of interviews and you just blew my mind.”

In his defense, the principle of Next day, is that the characters of Jake Gyllenhaal and Dennis Quaid are looking for each other, but are thousands of kilometers from each other when the snowstorm is unleashed on the United States. For Avalonia, they did not tour together strictly speaking either: they each recorded their voices during solo sessions. Finally, it is also possible that Jake Gyllenhaal overplayed his reaction to “troll” Dennis Quaid and the interviewer…
