Godzilla Returns to Japan: Godzilla Minus One Trailer

Japanese Godzilla Gets Angry in Minus One Trailer

The atomic lizard returns to our screens but this time under the Japanese banner.

After an already very exciting teaser, Godzilla Minus One has just revealed a more detailed trailer. The famous kaiju (giant monster of Japanese folklore) has nothing more to prove to spectators since its creation by Ishiro Honda in 1954. However, we will not deprive ourselves of a reminder. Godzilla is a gigantic monster in the form of a lizard capable of projecting a ray of atomic energy. When it was created in the 1950s, it crystallized the trauma of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs for the Japanese population, by personifying the result of the radioactive disaster.

More recently, Godzilla has been integrated into Western pop culture via the MonsterVerse franchise and its American adaptations. Godzilla (Gareth Edwards2014) Godzilla II: King of the Monsters (Michael Dougherty2019) and Godzilla VS Kong (Adam Wingard, 2021). This new version Minus One wants to reconnect with the Japanese origins of the character since the film is a Japanese production of Toho, the company having produced the original by Ishiro Honda. Directed by Takashi Yamazakithis film is the first in the Japanese franchise since 2016.

In devastated post-war Japan, the already desperate population is about to experience an unprecedented scourge when a titanic saurian monster begins to attack the country. The title Minus One is not chosen at random since it designates “the negative state” of Japan and its people at the time of this disaster. Godzilla Minus One should have a worldwide release on December 1, 2023, although this remains to be confirmed in France.
