Puss in Boots 2 – The Last Quest: an irresistible sequel (review)

THE “Big Bad Wolf” is shown here as a terrifying bounty hunter, who tracks down the hero who has reached his 9th and final life. With its red eyes that light up when it begins to hunt its prey and its cavernous and menacing voice (from Wagner Moura, the star of Narcos, in VO, and Doudou Masta in VF), it is very impressive. Just like his animation, particularly neat as soon as he takes action!

“He’s a character who surprised us ourselves when we created this film, admits the co-director of Puss in Boots 2 (with Januel P. Mercado). From the start, we had the idea of questioning this subject of mortality, since the goal of our history has always been to celebrate the beauty of life, the fact that it is unique. We wanted the audience to feel the joy of Puss in Boots as he begins to enjoy his final life. And for that, we had to take our story to some pretty dark places. We got this idea while rereading Grimm’s tales, in which the wolf often represents fear. Faced with the legend represented by Puss in Boots, who fears nothing, it was necessary to have an adversary as strong as the wolf, death, fear itself. I say an adversary, because he’s not a bad guy, we’ve never seen him like that. He is his antagonist, with a strong and fair point of view. Wagner Moura understands all this well, he plays it with great confidence, he is an imposing opponent, a force of nature.”
