Joker, peacock and classical ballet: Jason Momoa’s inspirations for Fast and Furious

The ex-Game of Thrones star wanted to make Dante Reyes “a flamboyant adversary.” Mission accomplished: this new villain was well received by the public.

Fast and Furious Facing them, Jason Momoa in great shape!

By signing for Fast and Furious X, Jason Momoa explained that he wanted to play a never-before-seen adversary against Dom (Vin Diesel) and his family. A bad guy “flamboyant”, far from his macho roles, Khal Drogo from Game Of Thrones on your mind.

It’s complicated because people always think I’m this guy who represents (the macho characters). I want to move on, to bring something new. Times are changing, and even the villains I play are eccentric!”he said in August 2022 about Dante Reyes, the son of a key character in the 5th part, determined to avenge the death of his father.

Pink varnish and matching car in Fast X: Jason Momoa is fed up with macho roles!

During the promotion of the film, he took this image of the peacockexplaining that he had a lot of fun playing this proud character, who takes care of himself physically, matches his clothes or his makeup to the colors of his classic cars…

Near Digital Spyhe added last May that he took great pleasure in playing with his hair, and was also inspired by a very well-known opera for this role: Swan Lake.

“I really loved doing that. I wore my hair in weird ways, I put it up like a rooster’s feathers. Every time I arrived on set, it was done differently, with really crazy cuts, but no one ever said anything to me about that. After a while, I said that that was the character and look of my character, and so I asked to play him myself like that. I loved the fact that the producers and even Vin trusted me. They let me play it exactly the way I wanted. We would arrive on set and the stunt guys or the crane guys would look at me. a grown man, dancing ballet. I literally googled: ‘How to interpret Swan Lake!’ And they let me do it.”

Now that the blockbuster is out, we can say that this interpretation of Dante Reyes is a success. Precisely thanks to his grandiloquent side, his pastel-colored looks and his destructive madness, this new villain is often compared to the Joker. His interpreter has not confirmed that it was openly one of his inspirations, but it is hard to believe that the team did not think of it when designing the scene where he addresses his henchmen…dead. An offbeat idea that was already used by Tim Burton in the first Batmanin which Jack Nicholson’s Joker made one of his enemies burn, before telling him (bad) jokes!

“In all this barnum, the film has a lethal weapon: Jason Momoawe write about this in our review. Defined as a psychopath from his appearance, looked like a Bollywood superstar (again!) with his little ponytail and his ivory white suit, he visibly gets a kick out of playing the naughty weirdo. The improbable breaks in tone that it brings are probably the work of Louis Leterrier who is not only the filmmaker of Clash of the Titans or The Incredible Hulk but also of Grimsby. You have to see Momoa talking to his two dead henchmen, or watch him move around in his pigtails, and come and make a joke in front of Diesel: Leterrier’s regressive obsessions are at work, symbol of a transition to terminal stage of a franchise which has therefore decided to go ever further.”
