Juliette Binoche protests against the treatment suffered by The Passion of Dodin Bouffant

“I found it harsh, really severe”: the actress defends her film with Benoît Magimel, nominated by France for the Oscar to the detriment of Anatomy of a Fall.

Traveling to New York for the release of The Passion of Dodin Bouffant in the United States and for that, on Apple+, of the series The New Look in which she plays Coco Chanel, the one who embodies “the archetype of the French star” (according to New York Times) returns to the controversy tainting the film Trần Anh Hùng in an interview with the American daily.

Usually, movie premieres in the United States are conducive to light promotion, producing pure moments ofentertainment American style. But between two questions about his on-screen chemistry with his former companion in the city, Benoit Magimel, Juliette Binoche is asked about “the buzz” which surrounded the film she presents. A bitter opportunity to recall the outcry caused by the choice of The Passion of Dodin Bouffant to represent France at the Oscars, preferred by the CNC commission to the Palme d’Or of Justine Triet, Anatomy of a fall. The controversy redoubled following the elimination of the film from the race for statuettes, and its nomination in the “technical” categories of the César.

The actress took this opportunity to set things straight: “First of all, we didn’t choose to be selected – the film was chosen against our will. We put our lives aside to devote ourselves entirely to the interviews. After (the rejection of the film by the Academy of Oscars), The world hit the nail on the head. It was a really nasty stance, arguing that the film was conventional, old-fashioned, that it was only about food. Some actors – and not the least known – even liked the post of this article on Instagram. I was like, “Wow, seriously?” It was very hard for Hùng, who only makes a film once every four or five years. I found it harsh, really severe.”

A severe “brouhaha”, therefore, which obscures the exemplary start of the film, which, presented at the Cannes Film Festival last year, still won the Best Director Award. Waiting for, the Caesars take place this Friday, February 23, and our predictions are here.
