Here is the couple's full speech on the Oscar stage, just after receiving the statuette for Best Original Screenplay.

And one! Anatomy of a fall won theOscar for Best Original Screenplay very early evening, tonight. Justine Triet And Arthur Harari were rewarded in particular against The Holdovers And Past Lives. A historic award, which was expected since the French film was favorite in this category.

The two authors were nonetheless very moved when they went on stage to deliver their speech. “This Oscar will help me get through the midlife crisis!“, laughed Justine Triet before recounting the conditions of writing the script, during confinement.

Arthur Harari paid tribute to the producers ofAnatomy of a fallMarie-Ange Luciani and David Thion: “There was nothing between us, or above us. There was only total independence and freedom, it was the only way to make this film“.

It was the only Oscar of the ceremony for Anatomy of a fall, but it’s already a big victory. The list of winners can be found here.

“Thank you so much, Justine begins. I think this will help me get through my mid-life crisis. It's been a completely crazy year. And tonight's glamor contrasts slightly with when it all began. We were stuck in a house, with two children, in full confinement. To have peace, we stuck them in front of cartoons. There was no boundary between writing and changing diapers.”

“And two people arrived, a woman and a man,” Arthur continues. “Marie-Ange Luciani and David Thion. That’s when things got really crazy. Like a double mix of ping pong played by nerds. There was nothing between us or above. Only total independence and freedom. And that was the only way we could make this film.”

“I want to thank the entire cast: Sandra, Milo, Antoine, Swan for everything you did on set,” adds Triet. You killed the script. And it’s the most beautiful thing that can happen to a screenwriter and a director.”

Justine Triet then recalled in the press room the importance of independent films, rewarded through the victory ofAnatomy of a fall : “The diversity of cinema is something that is close to my heart. I love huge productions but I also love small films and it's great to see that at the Oscars we can also give importance to films like that“.

She also praised the talent of Messi, alias Snoop in the film, a dog who left an impression on spectators.Anatomy of a fallthen who has makes a splash throughout Oscar season.

The duo also looked at the musical choice of “PIMP”, by 50 Cents, detailing that they had first tried to obtain the rights to a Dolly Parton song, but that their initial idea did not come to fruition. Explaining that he needed a title to pass “endlessly”Justine Triet specified that she had bet on “a song not too dark” :They refused to give us the rights, and I know it's very strange to go from Dolly Parton to 50 Cents, but it was the most passive aggressive song for the husband to release.”she justifies, before adding that her daughter was addicted to this rhythm, “which was often broadcast at home.”
