Justine Triet: “In the United States people think Sandra is guilty”

The director is amused that Anatomy of a Fall is not seen in the same way by spectators depending on their country.

During a visit to Paris, Justine Triet granted herself a moment of tranquility while walking through the corridors of a church, alongside Pierre Lescureconductor of the show Nice gesture broadcast every Sunday at 11 p.m. on France 2. The February 18 show honors a heart-to-heart interview on the rise of cinema’s most enigmatic fall. Justine Triet does not wish to comment on the guilt of the character played by Sandra Hüller for 10 years, and she has fun fuel fantasies around this mystery. Pierre Lescure asked the filmmaker about the reactions of the whole world towards her film and its divisive characters…

“In the United States the majority thinks she is guilty, in France it is the opposite. In Spain I was told ‘This woman is not very nice…’ What is common is that people talk to me about their lives. However, I did not turn into a psychologist. They tell me ‘I have the impression that you put cameras in my house’. People are troubled by the place of intimacy that the film evokes.”

Anatomy of a fall has 5 Oscar nominations. The snowy thriller is propelled into the big leagues since it will face big names in international cinema like Martin Scorsese who presents his latest feature film Killers of the Flower Moonor Christopher Nolan And Oppenheimer. There 96th Academy Awards will be held on Sunday March 10, 2024from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. (i.e. from 1 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. French time), at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, a 3,400-seat venue hosting the event since 2002.

The complete broadcast of Nice gesture is available in replay on france.tv.
