A new political series from HBO, doped with cynicism and superstars.

After being a police officer in Mare of Easttown, Kate Winslet reunites with HBO for a brand new original mini-series in a very different genre. In The system of governmentthe ex-rom’com heroine will be creepy like we’ve never seen her before! Kate Winslet will play a dictator of a (fictional) European country, who reigns with an iron fist over her people and also her ministers, assuming her anger and her ambitions of conquest. The thirst for power in its raw state. Except that outside, the people are roaring and the revolution threatens.

A political series doped with black humor which “takes us to the heart of a modern authoritarian regime as it begins to collapse”, writes HBO. “Chancellor Elena Vernham (Winslet), whom isolation within the four walls of the palace has made increasingly paranoid and unstable, surrounds herself with soldier Herbet Zubak, a confidant as improbable as she is unpredictable. While her hold on the Chancellor continues to grow, the latter’s unsuccessful attempts to quench her thirst for power cause a rift within the Palace and lead to the conflagration of the country.”

At the casting, Matthias Schoenaerts will play her soldier-lover, while Guillaume Gallienne will be her husband. Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton and Hugh Grant will also be there.

Written by Will Tracy and directed in part by Stephen Frearsthe 6-episode series will be broadcast from Monday March 4 on Prime Video’s Warner Pass in France.
