Kung Fu Panda 4 knocks out Dune 2 at the US box office!

The Dreamworks hero has successfully returned to theaters and (already) brought Denis Villeneuve's blockbuster down to second place.

Po still has the sacred fire! Almost ten years after the third opus (released in 2016), Kung Fu Panda 4 – which will be released on March 27 in France – had a great start at the US box office this weekend. After a first day (Friday) at 20 million dollars (previews included), the new part of the Dreamworks saga takes first place for the weekend with a total of 58 million dollars in three days!

It's quite simply the best start to the franchise since the first opus (Kung Fu Panda had gleaned 60 million when it opened in 2008) and the best launch for a Dreamworks animated film since Dragons 3: The Hidden World in 2019 (55 million).

A good omen for Kung Fu Panda 4which can now aim for the 600 million of the previous films, which had accumulated almost 2 billion dollars in revenue at the time between the three of them.

In the meantime, the animal offers itself Dune 2 !

After waking up the US box office last week, Denis Villeneuve's acclaimed blockbuster is back in line. Its attendance fell by 47% but Paul Atréides still earned Warner Bros. an additional 46 million dollars. for a cumulative total of 157 million dollars, already higher than the total score of the first part in North America (109 million in 2021). In the world, Dune 2 is already approaching 230 million dollars in worldwide revenue (when the first finished at 430 million).

We can finally note that a new release is on the US box office podium this week: the horror thriller Imaginary (which will be released on Wednesday in France) totaled nearly 10 million dollars for its first weekend, proof that horror is a genre that still does well across the Atlantic.
