Léa Seydoux: “Abdellatif Kechiche needs chaos to film”

The actress from La Vie d’Adèle mentions solidarity with her film companion, Adèle Exarchopoulos, with whom she shared a real “suffering”.

On display in The beast of Bertrand Bonello and soon Dune: Part Two, Léa Seydoux crossed the path of Pierre Lescure for its flagship show France.TV. In the latest issue of Nice gesture, the actress looked into the approaches of directors and the sometimes harmful climate that can reign on a film set. Some need “chaos“, according to her. In this way, she quickly makes the link with her experience on the set of The Life of Adele ofAbdellatif Kéchiche.

There are directors who need chaos to create. They need a chaotic climate. I am thinking of a film in particular, the film by Abdellatif Kechiche, The Life of Adele. He needs chaos to film, when I understood that, it was easier to accept. You have to know how to protect yourself. It is also a difficult job for these reasons, you have to know how to navigate between the temperaments of each person.“, confides the actress.

It is without rancor that Léa Seydoux pours out on “chaos” established by the filmmaker. Here is the rest of the exchange.

Pierre Lescure : “Do you think a shoot like this couldn’t be done today?

Léa Seydoux : “I hope and at the same time it was so special. It wasn’t just a negative experience. In this suffering (because it was very painful) already, I was with Adèle, the fact that there were two of us, we were very united in our suffering, but I think that it is also something that taught a lot. It completely transformed me, it became part of me. I managed to transform the negative aspect into something positive. I didn’t let it destroy me, on the contrary I told myself that it would give me more strength.

Always in a relativist spirit, Léa Seydoux still claims the suffering shared with her ally, her accomplice, Adèle Exarchopoulos. The solidarity between the two actresses eased the harshness of this ordeal, orchestrated by a demanding filmmaker.

In September 2013, Adèle Exarchopoulos already mentioned in First an extraordinary shoot“:

We say things that disturbed us, we tell people that it was hard because it’s obvious, but now we laugh about it. The worst part was that some days Abdel was an angel. He’s a good person. It is its complexity that is frightening, intimidating, hard to understand and accept. He is the first to suffer on this film. We never talk about it, but he made a lot of sacrifices to The Life of Adele and, somewhere, he expects others to return the favor. It was just an extraordinary, timeless shoot.

The Kéchiche scandal reached its climax in 2017, after the release of Mektoub My Love. A witness, who was allegedly present on the film set, told Free Midday behind the scenes : “The director had the nightclub scenes replayed for hours and hours, exhausting all the actors and filming continued very late into the night.

Léa Seydoux seems to have overcome this ordeal. Ten years after the great success of The Life of Adeleshe will face the giant worms in the second part of Dune, who will come out on February 28, 2024. Here is its trailer:
