This German film, acclaimed at the last Berlinale, is nominated for the 2024 Oscars.

While several thefts take place in the teachers’ lounge, Carla Nowak takes charge of the investigation in the college where she teaches. Quickly, the entire establishment is shaken by his discoveries.

Ilker Catakdirector ofAt the end of the journey (2019) and Word given (2019), invokes the universal theme of school benches as a true reflection of the ills of a society, damaged by its inequalities:

School is a good playground because it is a mirror of our society. It is a microcosm, like a model of the different forces present: the head of state, the ministers, the press, the people… The Teachers’ Room addresses many different subjects. The central aspect of the film for me is the question of truth: how we look for it, do we find it, do we believe in it. said the filmmaker in the press kit.

The teachers’ room premiered at the Berlinale 2023 in the Panorama selection, where it won the Arthouse Cinema Prize. It will then be crowned with 5 Lolas: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing. The feature film also won the 2023 Grand Jury Prize at the Les Arcs festival. In addition to this promising track record, the film is nominated for the next Oscars in the best international film category.

The casting brings together faces well known to the German public, Michael Klammer (Leif in concert), Rafael Stachowiak (The conference, Buchenwald’s Child), as well as Leonie Benesch (The White Ribbon, Babylon Berlin) interpreter of Cécile of Greece in the British series The Crown.

The teachers’ room will be released on March 6, 2024 in theaters.
