Les Chatouilles – Andréa Bescond: “I wanted to distance myself from my personal history”

Andréa Bescond and Eric Métayer tell us about Les Chatouilles, their emotional film which returns this weekend on television.

Tickles will return this Sunday on France 2. The drama by Andréa Bescond and Eric Métayer will be followed by a documentary on rape entitled Abused childhood.

On this occasion, we are republishing our interview with the co-directors, as well as links to the review of this big favorite from 2018, which was presented as part of the Cannes festival (Un Certain Regard) before win the Cesars for best adaptation and best supporting actress for Karin Viard.

Les Chatouilles: A great drama (Review)

A little reminder of the facts. Since 2015, Andrea Bescond had a full house with his only one on stage, Tickles (or the dance of anger), a bracing and moving account of her experience as a child who was sexually assaulted. She plays all the roles (herself, her mother, her psychologist, her attacker…) with the constant concern not to pull the show towards misery but towards something sunny and resilient.

How can we adapt this to cinema with different writing and, above all, more direct, more explicit staging? With Eric Métayerher companion and co-director, she opted for a daring narration, made of breaks in tone, a mixture of temporalities and the addition of new characters (including a formidable benevolent lover played by Gregory Montel), which establishes an organic link with the show while offering a different experience. Successful bet !
