Loki travels through time in new season 2 trailer

Loki: how much is season 2 linked to the rest of the MCU?

Producer Kevin Wright reveals to us whether Loki’s new space-time adventures were intended as a springboard towards Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

The return of Loki on Disney Plus has been spectacular. Season 2 began with a bang last Friday on the platform. Space-time chaos threatens the TVA and the God of Malice must become a hero to save the multiverse. Or something like that… Spoiler alert!

The executive producer, Kevin Wrightsummarizes for us the complex premises of this season 2 of Loki, by simplifying: “At the end of season 1, Loki was pushed out of the End Times and found himself back in the TVA. He understands that no one remembers him anymore. And for good reason: we quickly understand that he has slipped into space-time. He is now stuck in the past. He becomes a sort of Billy Pilgrim in the book Slaughterhouse 5 or the Children’s Crusade (1969)…” deciphers Wright for Première. “He is no longer in one place now, but in several at the same time. The goal of the first episode is therefore first of all to get him out of there and bring him back. And then, to see how to save VAT!”

As revealed in the trailer for the next episodes (below), the rest of season 2 of Loki will bring back Jonathan Majors, to play the scientist who will become Kang and all his versions until The One Who Remains, the mastermind killed by Sylvie at the end of season 1. So to what extent season 2 of Loki will it be crucial for the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Will it be possible to see future MCU films, including Avengers: The Kang Dynastywithout having seen it? Kevin Wright answers us:

“Season 1 had a huge impact on the MCU. Season 2 will have an equally big impact. This is our series that defines and drives the Marvel multiverse and the directors (of the upcoming films) will pick up from there that we did. Jonathan Majors (Kang) is very present and that means something.”

But he immediately tempers it by ensuring that the Loki is first and foremost an independent series: “The only prerequisite for viewers before season 2 of Loki, is to have seen season 1. You don’t need to have seen all the MCU films and series to follow and understand. Our story is enough in itself. Of course, we bring little things that add to the Marvel universe in general. But this multiverse story, Kang’s story, is our story. We don’t receive directives from the management of Marvel Studios who would tell us: we have to introduce this, it has to be connected like this… We build our story as we see fit..”

This season 2 of Lokiin six episodes, will continue next Friday on Disney Plus.
