Loki: the producer explains why Jonathan Majors was not cut from season 2

Arrested last March for domestic violence, the antagonist of Loki is back in the Marvel series.

After his first appearance in season 1 of LokiKang the Conqueror was the attraction ofAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The evolution of this character shines with abilities that promise Jonathan Majors a promising future within the Marvel universe. In the same way as Covid-19, Kang the Conqueror has several variants, as subtly suggested in the post-credits scenes of Quantumania. In one of them, Loki spies on Kang version of Victor Timely, a businessman who grants himself time travel.

Problem is, Jonathan Majors has since found himself at the heart of a dark legal story. The actor is being prosecuted for having attacked a woman he was intimate with in New York last March. He denies the facts, but the case is continuing, and he will have to appear before the judge again on October 25, in the middle of the broadcast of season 2 of Loki on Disney Plus.

With the wind in his sails, Majors could potentially be blacklisted from Hollywood. But Marvel has decided not to “cancel” its star for the moment. Kevin Wright, the producer of the series, spoke to Variety about the serious accusations made against his actor: “I don’t know any more than you at the moment and it would have been hasty to act without knowing what was happening.”

Far from wanting to avoid the question, the producer invokes the card of patience before making a judgment. In fact, Jonathan Majors does appear in season 2.

This may be the first Marvel series to never film additional scenes. The story that is on screen is the story that we decided to make. We went in there with a very specific idea of what we wanted it to be, and we found a way to tell it during that period of production. “That’s absolutely what’s on screen on Disney+.”

Furthermore, he does not deny the return of Loki in a future Marvel film is current, which suggests happy plans for the character.

It’s hope. I don’t want to – yeah. That the sun shining on Loki and Thor again has always been the priority of the story we’re telling. But for this encounter to be truly satisfying, we need to get Loki to a certain place emotionally. I think that was the goal of these two seasons.”

Season 2 of Loki started on October 6 on Disney+
