Madame Web's flop doesn't affect Sydney Sweeney: “I was just hired as an actress…”

The young actress considers that she does not have to take responsibility for this failure. Like Dakota Johnson, she answers the question bluntly.

Sydney Sweeneytormented starletEuphoria, since the success of this series, has been making feature films. At the end of the promotion ofImmaculate at the South by Southwest festival, the one that conquered the box office with Everything except you with Glen Powelllooks back on the flop of his last film.

Because if it has recorded a revenue of 200 million dollars worldwide, the fuse does not always take… The Sony web, Madame Web, failed to capture its audience. The decline was felt, with its American score of “only” $42 million at the box office, as well as a worldwide cume of less than $100 million. Questioned about this failure like her colleague Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney puts it into perspective and does not seem to be affected by it. In an interview with Los Angeles Timesshe confided not to be bothered by the mockery which relates Madame Web.

I was hired as an actress, so I was prepared for everything.

Sydney Sweeney nevertheless embodied an original figure, the female version of Spiderman, Julia Cornwall. Critics eviscerated the film, sparking a wave of ridicule on social media. The film was so mocked that Sydney Sweeney, she herself plays with this decline. She declared to Saturday Night Live : “You may have seen me in Everything except you Or Euphoria, but you certainly haven't seen me in Madame Web. I have a new movie coming out called Immaculate. I play a nun, it's flawless casting” she joked. Jimmy Kimmel participated in the joke, throwing a tackle during the Oscars ceremony:

The people in this room managed to find so many great films and memorable performances. This evening is filled with enormous talent and untold potential, just like Madame Web.

Sydney Sweeney was also present during the cinematographic event: she wore a familiar red carpet outfit, signed Marc Bouwer. The latter wore the iconic satin dress which covered Angelina Jolie at the 2004 Oscars – an outfit paying tribute to Marilyn Monroe.

Dakota Johnsonheadliner of the black widow spoke at Bustle on the poor reception of the film:

“Making a film is super hard, and for these big productions that manage to come out — and it's starting to happen to the smaller ones, which really scares me — the decisions are made by committees while the art survives difficult to pass through committees. The films are made by a filmmaker and a team of artists gathered around this figure. You can't make art against a backdrop of numbers and algorithms. I have long believed that the public is very intelligent, while studio executives think otherwise. The public will always be able to sniff out the bullshit that we want to feed them.”

In a new spirit, the horror film Immaculate will be able to take his revenge on this failure of the filmography of Syndey Sweeney.

Immaculate will be released on March 20, 2024. Here is the trailer:
