1 billion dollars in 17 days: Barbie is a hit at record speed

Margot Robbie denies Barbie 2: “We gave everything in this unique film”

The actress insists on the need for an original film to be a hit and motivate studios to invest large sums in something other than sequels or prequels.

With $1.5 billion in theatrical revenue, barbie is the 14th biggest hit of all time in cinema. Moreover, in this top 15, all the films present (except Titanic) are sequels, and/or had sequels! So it seems inevitable that this will also happen for barbie. But Margot Robbie does not agree. In any case, the star assures, in a recent interview with APwhich she has not planned, for the moment, to come back to do Barbie 2 :

“We put everything into this film. We didn’t want it to be a trilogy or anything like that. Greta Gerwig, the director, gave everything into this one film, so I can’t imagine today today what a sequel could give.”

Besides, Greta Gerwig will be very busy with Narnia these next few years. And Margot Robbie insists:

“I want to remember that original films can still be hugely successful at the box office! It doesn’t have to be a sequel, a prequel or a remake. It can also be a completely original work. We can still have it entrust a big budget to make it happen”, insists the actress, in a message to the studios. She adds:

“Just because there is a female lead doesn’t mean it won’t hit all the targets. That’s a misconception that a lot of people still have. So it was very important that barbie succeeds. It’s nice for me, but also very important so that people in the future can have great, original ideas and have the budget to execute them properly.”
