Martin Scorsese doesn’t like the top 10 best films

“The problem is that the word ‘favorite’ has several meanings,” explains the filmmaker, who has difficulty establishing lists of his favorite works.

Martin Scorsese is on the cover of Time. Part of this interview was revealed on video, and he revealed that he had a lot of difficulty with the concept of “list of favorite films”.

“Over the years I’ve tried to make films of films that I consider to be my favorites, whatever that means, he explains. Because the problem is that this word, ‘favorite’, has several meanings. Are we talking about the films that had the most impact on you? Or the ones you can’t help but watch again? Or the ones in which you discover new things every time you look at them? Who offer you a new experience? It varies. This is why I am against this kind of ‘top 10’.”

Last December, Martin Scorsese participated in the famous ranking of the best films of all time, established from the choices of renowned filmmakers by Sight and Sound. He had proposed 15 titles, including 2001: A Space Odyssey, 8 and a Half, Citizen Kane, Ikiru, The Red Shoes…

“Yes, I mentioned Citizen Kane, because this film changed my life, he justifies. He broke all the rules. One of the things Orson Welles said is that the best you can bring to the making of a film is ignorance. When did you say: ‘You can not do this’answer: ‘And why not ?’“

No offense to Martin Scorsese, there is no doubt that following his warm welcome at the last Cannes Film Festival, his latest film Killers of the Flower Moon will appear on the lists of the best films of 2023 established at the end of each year by film buffs… Release scheduled for October 18 in cinemas.
