Mary-Louise Parker: “The return of Weeds will not happen” (excluded)

While a project to return the series had been in development for several years, the actress revealed to Première that this sequel was abandoned. To his great regret.

It's a project that will have made Hollywood go crazy for many years. From 2019, the project to bring back Weedsthe series of Jenji Kohan (Orange is the new black) about a mother who was a cannabis dealer began to circulate. Then it was very close to becoming a reality, until last year's strike. More than a reboot, it was to be a real sequel, a season 9 ten years later, which was to see Nancy flourish in Europe, in Copenhagen, in the era of legalization…

But all that won't happen, as the star revealed today to Première Mary Louise Parker :

We're not going to do it after all. They decided it wouldn't happen. I really wanted to do it, the whole cast really wanted to do (this sequel)...” confides the actress we met at the 63rd Monte-Carlo television festival this weekend. Visibly disillusioned, the 59-year-old actress adds:

“I honestly believe there were new things to tell about Nancy Botwin… But maybe they thought I was too old for the role… I don't know.”

Mary Louise Parker tells us that she does not know the precise reasons which derailed the project, but she describes how the studio hesitated for a long time: “I don't know exactly how it was decided. But one day they said to us: 'It's okay, we'll schedule the shooting on Tuesday!' And the next Thursday, they called and said, 'No, actually, it's not going to do it.' And it lasted like that for 4 years.”

Weeds, which lasted from 2005 to 2012, is therefore not expected to return. “I was really disappointed I must say” concludes Mary Louise Parker. Watch below:
