Mattel releases cinema career Barbies

But where is the scriptwriter doll? This year, the “Career of the Year” collection is centered around cinema.

Each year, the Mattel company, creator of the famous Barbie doll, launches a special Career of the Year collection in which it highlights a particular theme. In 2023, it was women in sport and this year, to celebrate the immense success of the film Greta Gerwigthe company launches the collection “Women in Films !

Four dolls are therefore put up for sale, each having a job related to the film industry. There is of course the Director Barbie, dressed in a denim jumpsuit reminiscent of certain outfits of the same style worn by Greta Gerwig on the set of the film. She is equipped with a helmet, a copy of the script and an optical viewfinder around her neck. Her sidekick, Barbie Cinematographer carries a camera on her shoulder, dressed in a casual and comfortable outfit for long days of filming.

They are both watched out of the corner of his eye by Executive Producer Barbie, who ensures that the budget is respected. Elegant in her blazer and armed with her cell phone, she is prepared for any eventuality and manages the pressure put on by the studio. Obviously, what would this collection be without Cinema Star Barbie, who shines in her gala dress by an Italian designer, her Oscar in hand. We can almost hear his Oscar speech from here: “I thank my family and loved ones… It’s a huge honor…”

Mattel stops there and does not offer a complete film crew, even if we would have appreciated the existence of a Screenwriter Barbie, a Makeup Artist Barbie, a Production Designer Barbie or a Sound Engineer Barbie. An issue rightly raised in the film, which is therefore indeed at the heart of this new collection of dolls.
