Minecraft “magical” and “realistic”: an actress from the film testifies

Danielle Brooks teases the universe of this video game adaptation, with Jack Black and Jason Momoa.

Right now, video games are all the rage in Hollywood. While we speculate on the production of a film Fortnite by Disney, and that Pedro Pascal has just been rewarded for his role in The Last of Us at the SAG Awards, Danielle Brooks spreads some information on the filming of the adaptation of the very popular Minecraft in an interview given to Variety.

Headed by Jared Hessthe director of Napoleon Dynamite, the film is currently being filmed in New Zealand. Between two questions about The Color Purple (his last film) and Orange is the New Black (the series that launched her career), the actress is asked about the links between the film and the original material. She answers :

“I don’t play the game, but I know the universe and the movie are pretty magical. Everything is so realistic. I don’t know how much I can talk about it, but I’m confident that fans won’t be disappointed with the world that’s been created. Obviously, we used green backgrounds, but we also used natural settings. Basically, all the senses are used: sight, with the visual universe, but also the smell of certain things. This will all make more sense in a few months when I can really explain myself”.

A response that promises a production on par with recent video game adaptations.

Furthermore, Danielle Brooks also lets slip some details about the filming, on which she works with Jack Black And Jason Momoa. We thus learn that Jack Black multiplies the stunts: “He’s the one who does most of the work. We made him fly, escape artificial flames…”

The actress also lets us glimpse the glimmer of a musical duet with Jack Black (who had already sang the song in Super Mario Bros the Movie): “I hope I can sing in the film. We can’t make a movie with Danielle Brooks and Jack Black without having us do something together.”. And to conclude: “I’m having fun (on set)”.

While waiting to discover the first images of the film, we can’t wait to discover the winners of the Oscars ceremony: Danielle Brooks is nominated for the first time for her supporting role in The Color Purple.
