Mission Impossible 7: Henry Czerny talks about his return as Kittridge

This is the first time that his character has reappeared since the first part of the saga, in 1996.

A series of new characters come to oppose or assist Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1, seventh part of the saga released this Wednesday in French cinemas. We find in particular Grace, a genius pickpocket, but also Paris, a relentless killer, or even Gabriel, a threat straight out of Ethan Hunt’s past…

Tom Cruise will resume filming Mission Impossible 8 and prepares his film in space

Another character, that ofEugene Kittridgeseems to appear for the first time in this extremely dense universe: it is actually present in the first Impossible mission by Brian de Palma, released in 1996, as an intermediary for the agency IMF, which tracks down Ethan Hunt after the suspicious death of his entire team at the start of the film. In this Mission: Impossible 7Kittridge has become the new director of the CIA, still maintaining troubled ties with the spy played by Tom Cruise…

Henry Czernyinterpreter of Kittridge, returned to Variety on his return to the franchise: “I thought my comeback was a joke at first. When my agents called me to tell me that we wanted to bring Kittridge back to the heart of the saga, I was doing my business in Los Angeles, probably stuck in a traffic jam or sorting out my taxes! I said to myself “Okay, what’s going on?”and I was answered “Christopher McQuarrie swould love to chat with you about a return from Kittridge.” So I took it literally, and two days later I was on the phone with McQuarrie.

Henry Czerny reveals in passing that Christopher McQuarrie wanted to bring Kittridge back since the fifth episode. It was the character of Alan Hunley, played by Alec Baldwin, who ended up director of the CIA in Rogue Nation, before becoming Secretary of the MFI in the next section. “I’m glad Alec Baldwin played this role. He was great!” In Mission: Impossible – Fallouthowever, it was Angela Bassett who played the big boss of the CIA, unable to return in this seventh episode due to reshoots related to COVID-19, although she could make her return soon…

Mission Impossible: what we know about the eighth part

Henry Czerny also returned to the stunt of the train of this seventh part, in which Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell must succeed in climbing several cars of a train leaning in the void: “There are a lot of Easter Eggs in the movie. The last time we see Ethan Hunt in the first part is on a train, and he is on a train again here with another actress named Vanessa, Kirby this time and not Redgrave”. Incredible but true: Vanessa Kirby interprets in this seventh installment (and the previous one) the role of the arms dealer Alanna Mitsopolis, daughter of the character of Vanessa Redgrave in the first film, Max Mitsopolis.

They pushed the level of the stunts very far, it is something extremely satisfying. Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise have mastered their art perfectly. The film offers an incredible experience, with a lot of action and emotion!”, adds Czerny, revealing in the process that this Dead Reckoning – Part 1 is now his favorite film in the saga: “This new component eclipses the previous one. It is awesome.
