Adila Benmirad (The Last Queen) plays a mother concerned about her son’s future, in a social comedy by Malik Chibane.
Adapted from the story of Magyd Cherfi, My part of Gauls traces Mourad’s educational career. Initially intended for a mechanical CAP, the teenager found himself propelled into a general course, since his mother had decided so. Social pressure is established in this home, where the baccalaureate is far from being considered a formality.
In fact, Mourad is immersed in an environment foreign to the city in which he lives: he opens himself up to new people, to different genres of music, to a culture that is the polar opposite of that which floats in his home. Disillusionment occurred alongside the election of François Mitterrand in 1981, when Mourad lost interest in the Holy Grail, to the great dismay of his mother.
My part of Gauls is made by Malik Chibane, which itself evolved in a transcultural climate. Of Kabyle origin, he first established himself as an electronics engineer. In 1993, he launched into the seventh art by founding the socio-cultural association Idrisswhich allows him to start work on his first film, hexagon. Will follow Sweet France (1995), Born somewhere (1997) , Neighbors (2005), and Myriam’s Choice (2008), Poor Richard, Furious (both broadcast in 2011) and Lucky Children (2016). The filmmaker summons in his new social comedy Adila Benmirad in the shoes of the worried mother. The actress is known for her role as well as her participation in the production of The Last Queen (2022). In the role of Mourad, Abdallah Charki (Skam France, Terrace), a new face of French cinema.
