Mr & Mrs Smith back in 2024: first look at the series

Donald Glover and Maya Erskine will be the new Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

They’re going to wait a little longer before shooting each other! Mr & Mrs Smith will only land on Prime Video “early 2024”, Amazon announced today. The streamer had revealed this summer a launch for next November, but certainly due to the current strike in Hollywood, the platform is postponing the release of the remake of the cult 2005 film. It still offers (above) the first official photo of the new killer couple.

In this new version, co-created by Donald Glover (Atlanta) and Francesca Sloane, Mr & Mrs Smith are played by Glover as John Smith and Maya Erskine (PEN15) in the role of Jane Smith. They will reprise the roles played by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in the cinema.

The official synopsis suggests that the story will not be quite the same as that of the film, since the marriage of the two Smiths will be a cover here:

“Meet the Smiths: two strangers, John and Jane, who give up their identities to become partners – in espionage and marriage. Partnered with a mysterious agency, each episode follows them on a new mission and a new step in their relationship. When the cracks start to appear, they have to fight to stay together. Because in this marriage, divorce is not an option.”
