Naruto: the live action film entrusted to a Marvel director!

After Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Destin Daniel Cretton is tackling a highly anticipated adaptation.

In the wake of the cardboard One Pieceit was to be expected that Naruto or next on the list. The famous manga will be entitled to its live action film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will take the project in hand. Destin Daniel CrettonMarvel filmmaker, will write and direct this live-action adaptation.

Cretton had been a major member of the MCU for a few years, working on the series Wonder Man for Disney Plus and especially on the film Avengers: The Kang Dynasty… before being sidelined during the post-flops reshuffle of 2023. The young American director of Japanese origins, aged 45, will therefore bounce back with the enormous Narutowhich he takes back from the hands of Tasha Huo (The Witcher: Blood Origin). She was the one who wrote the project until then, and we don’t know if she is still involved…

Obviously, Cretton’s choice was validated by the creator of Naruto in person, Masashi Kishimoto :

“When I heard about Destin’s possible arrival, I had just seen one of his hit action films, and thought he would be the perfect director for Naruto. After enjoying his other films and realizing that his strong point was creating solid dramas about people, I became convinced that there was no other director for Naruto. Upon meeting Destin, I also discovered that he was an open-minded director, willing to accept my input and confident that we would be able to cooperate together in the production process.”

In addition to writing and directing, Cretton will produce the adaptation of the manga created in 1999 and which was published until November 2014. The anime Naruto has 220 episodes (2002-2007) and its sequel, Naruto Shippudentotals 500 episodes (2007-2017).
