Natalie Portman makes her first series: trailer for The Voice of the Lake

A mysterious female thriller, set in the 1960s.

Six months later May Decemberhere it is again Natalie Portmanbut this time in a totally different register: the actress of Thor And Star Wars will star in his very first series. She who had already briefly appeared in an episode of Simpson or comedy Angie Tribecawill play his first real role on the small screen in The Voice of the Lake. An Apple TV+ detective series that she will produce herself.

The story takes place in the 1960s and will be a nebulous thriller: “Thanksgiving 1966 – While the city of Baltimore is in turmoil following the disappearance of a little girl, the lives of two women will fatally collide. Maddie Schwartz (Portman), a housewife, seeks to bury a mysterious past and reinvent herself as an investigative journalist. Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram), a mother struggling to provide for her family, navigates the political underbelly of Baltimore’s black community. Their lives seem very different, but when Maddie becomes obsessed with Cleo’s baffling death, a chasm opens up, putting both women’s loved ones in danger.

Created, written and directed by Alma Har’el, The Voice of the Lake will also bring together Brett Gelman, Byron Bowers, Noah Jupe, Josiah Cross, Mikey Madison and Pruitt Taylor Vince.

The miniseries has seven episodes. The Voice of the Lake will launch on Friday July 19 with two episodes, followed by a new episode every Friday until August 23, 2024.
