It's finished, but you'll never see it: this Netflix movie with Halle Berry thrown in the trash

Netflix justifies the cancellation of the film with Halle Berry: “It was better not to see that”

The Mothership will remain hidden, despite its attractive pitch and its international star cast.

A few days ago, Entertainment Weekly learned that Netflix would not release The Mothershipfirst film by Matt Charman (known in particular for having co-written The Bridge of Spies with the Coen brothers). This story of a newly single mother discovering an alien object under her house which could be linked to the sudden disappearance of her husband was filmed, but the streaming platform preferred to keep it hidden. Just like Warner Bros. did. With Batgirl Or Coyote and Acme (before the latter finds another distributor). This will save Netflix promotional costs, as well as taxes on its distribution.

The Mothership had entered post-production in 2021, and three years later, the team is visibly not happy with the result, its star Halle Berry on your mind. Bela Bajaria, who is in charge of Netflix’s new content, explains this decision to the same American magazine.

“It doesn’t happen often, it’s even very rare, but it’s better not to see it, he justifies. When you think about everything we produce, it’s definitely an exception, but everyone came to the same conclusion: there were tons of production problems, divergent creative opinions, on both sides that this whether from the talents or from us, we ended up agreeing that it was better not to see that. We all thought it would be the right thing to do (not to take it out)and why not look at another project together?”

Halle Berry was obviously not the only one in the casting of The Mothership : she was surrounded by Molly Parker (House of Cards), Omari Hardwick (Army of the Dead), Rafael Silva (9-1-1: Lone Star), Sydney Lemmon (Helstrom), John Ortiz (Fast & Furious), and Paul Guilfoyle (The experts). Bajaria emphasizes that the abandonment of this project does not mean that Netflix will no longer make a film or series with Halle Berry, quite the contrary: the actress and producer has signed a deal for several projects with the service. In 2020, she released her first production, Bruisedand she is currently preparing The Unionan action thriller in which she will meet JK Simmons, Mike Colter and Mark Wahlberg.
