Netflix unveils The Snow Circle, the new film by Juan Antonio Bayona: trailer

Five years after attempting the blockbuster adventure with dinos without much success, the Spanish-Uruguayan director Juan Antonio Bayona returns to a more intimate cinema and signs The Snow Circlea heartbreaking survival drama based on an incredible true story set in the middle of the Andes mountain range.

Presented in September as a world premiere at the Venice Film Festival out of competition, The Snow Circle today unveils its trailer following its broadcast at the Lumière Festival.

The story takes us back to 1972: “Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which was carrying a rugby team to Chile, crashed in the Andes. Among the 45 passengers, only 29 survived the accident. Stuck in one of the most hostile and inaccessible environments on the planet, they must take extreme measures to ensure their survival.”

The cast includes Rafael Federman, Felipe González Otaño, Simón Hempe.

Juan Antonio Bayonadirector of The orphanage (2007), The Impossible (2012) and A few minutes after midnight (2016), also wrote the film with Bernat Vilaplana, adapting the book of the same name by Pablo Vierci (published in 2009).

The Snow Circles will be released in France on Netflix on January 4, 2024. Note that the film was chosen by the Spanish Film Academy as the film representing Spain at the 96th edition of the Cinema Oscars.
