No Dune 4 for Denis Villeneuve: he will stop after The Messiah of Dune

The filmmaker announces that he does not intend to adapt all of Frank Herbert.

If we especially know the first volume, Dune is a vast saga in the work of Frank Herbert. A “cycle” which includes no less than six works, including Children of Dune (1976) or The God-Emperor of Dune (1982) until The Mothers’ House (1985). But Denis Villeneuve won’t go that far in adaptation. The filmmaker announced today in an interview with Time magazine that he will stop after Dune 3adaptation of the second novel: The Messiah of Dune.

“Dune Messiah will definitely be the last Dune movie for me!”

He immediately confirms that “the script is almost finished but it’s not yet completely finished. It will take a little time… We dream of making a third film… that would make perfect sense to me.”

Because for now, Warner Bros. waiting to know the numbers for Dune 2 before giving the green light to the production of Dune 3.

And if the box office is good, even if Denis Villeneuve stop, nothing stops the studio from hiring another director to bring the other books to the screen…

Remember that the franchise will continue at least in streaming on HBO Max with the series Dune: Prophecywhich will look at the Bene Gesserit.
