Oscars 2024: The Passion of Dodin Bouffant is still in the race
Other French (co)productions are in the running, such as Moi, Capitaine or Les Filles d’Olfa.
The Academy of Oscars yesterday unveiled its shortlist of around ten categories: best makeup and hairstyle, best sound, best visual effects, best original song, etc. barbie It is the most named work, with five mentions. The preselection of the so-called categories “main” will be revealed later.
Among those revealed last night, there are the Oscar for best international filmfor which France had submitted The Passion of Dodin Bouffant, by Trần Anh Hùng, produced by Curiosa Films and distributed by Gaumont. Coming out on February 14 in the United States under the name The Taste Of Things, and distributed by IFC Films – Sapan Studios, it is one of the 15 productions currently selected. Among them, five will be officially selected on January 23, then the ceremony will take place on Sunday March 10.
The choice to submit The Passion of Dodin Bouffant rather thanAnatomy of a fall, by Justine Triet, who received the Palme d’Or at the last Cannes festival, made a lot of noise. But the latter could be competing in other categoriessuch as those for best film, best screenplay (co-written by the director with her companion Arthur Harari) or best actress, Sandra Huller being acclaimed everywhere for her performance since the film’s screening on the Croisette.

Among them, we note other French co-productions, such as Olfa’s daughters by Kaouther Ben Hania, which represents Tunisia and is co-produced by Tanit Films. It is also selected in the best documentary category. The monk with the gun by Pawo Choyning Dorji, candidate from Bhutan, is co-produced by Films Boutique Production; Godland by Hlynur Pálmason, who represents Iceland, is supported by the French company Maneki Films, and finally Me, Captain by Matteo Garrone, representative of Italy, is a Pathé co-production.

Also within the short films, several French productions are in the running.
