Paranormal Activity to be adapted into a play

Simon Friend, who directed The Odyssey of Pi on Broadway, is behind the project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cult horror film Paranormal Activity will be adapted for the theater. At the head of the project: Simon Friend, a producer who has already adapted Life of Pi for Broadway. Playwright Levi Holloway is already working on writing this play. The project is set to be staged at the West End theater in London.

Paranormal Activity is a cult horror film released in 2007, known for its ridiculously small budget ($15,000) but whose resounding success increased the revenue tenfold ($194.2 million at the box office). Written and directed by Oren Pelithe first opus is a film in found footage (a subgenre of horror cinema which uses falsely authentic video materials, joining the principle of the mockumentary), recounting the misadventures of a couple moving into a haunted house.

After the success of the first film, Paranormal Activity has become a franchise with six other episodes released until 2021. In total, the saga has grossed $900 million at the box office.

In addition to having adapted Life of Pi on Broadway, Simon Friend also adapted The Da Vinci Code for the boards. The man therefore has some experience in the exercise of transposing a cinematographic work to the theatrical stage.
