'Peace is an illusion' in new Star Wars: The Acolyte trailer

The next live Disney+ series reveals a little more.

“May the 4th be with you”. Each year, the date of May 4, which has officially become Star Wars Day, marks the opportunity for the Lucasfilm studio to reveal new information and/or images of their upcoming projects.

2024 was no exception to the rule, and while Disney+ unveiled the six (and successful) animated short films making up Tales of the Empirethe streaming platform also shared a new trailer for The Acolytehis next series Star Wars live.

Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Acolyte, Rogue Squadron… Women are finally taking over the Star Wars saga

Designed by Leslie Headland (Bachelorette, Russian doll), The Acolyte was presented in March as a show once again devoted to the Jedi, but nevertheless offering “a new era”its protagonists clashing under the High Republic.

This idea of change is also felt in its powerful threat and its many women in charge. In addition to the screenwriter and director behind the camera, we will find on screen Amanda Stenberg (The Hate You Give, The Eddy), Carrie-Anne Moss (Matrix), Jodie Turner Smith (Anne Boleyn) as well as Dafne Keen (Logan, His Dark Materials). Their main male playing partners will be Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Charlie Barnett (Russian doll), Joonas Suotamo (who no longer plays Chewbacca but a lonely Wookie called Kelnacca) and Manny Jacinto (The Good Place).

All these beautiful people will find themselves faced with a reality that is visibly difficult to accept. “Peace is an illusion”this new trailer first tells us, then the teaser adds that “No one is safe from the truth”. Filled with images of conflict, this new video suggests that The Acolyte will be in the vein of the more politicized series of the saga, Andor, with main set pieces and strong societal issues. Which fits well with the atmosphere of its first trailer, where we heard: “We don't talk about good or bad. We're talking about power, and who has the right to use it.”

To watch the first two episodes of The Acolytesee you on June 4 on Disney+.
