Entertainment Weekly revealed the first images of the upcoming remake of The Toxic Avengerwith Peter Dinklage in the leading role, supported by Elijah Wood And Kevin Bacon in the roles of his adversaries. But above all, what is The Toxic Avenger ? This is a franchise of B series films, which have become cult, the first part of which was released in 1984.

Created by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Hertz, The Toxic Avenger tells the story of Melvin Junko, a young maintenance worker from Tromaville, who is the sufferer of the other inhabitants. After accidentally falling into a barrel of chemicals, young Junko transforms into a superhuman, deformed monster. He then takes the identity of Toxic Avenger and brings justice to Tromaville. Following this first film, the duo released three sequels, two in 1989 and a final episode in 2000, directed solely by Kaufman. The toxic vigilante will also be adapted into a children’s cartoon series called Toxic Crusaders and in video games.

Macon Blairthe director of I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore, is in charge of this remake, which takes up the origins of the Toxic Avenger. The first images reveal to us Peter Dinklage dressed in the famous tutu worn by the character from the first film. He also has a wolf on his face, implying his role as an anonymous vigilante. In this version, the “hero” is no longer young Melvin Junko but a maintenance worker named Winston Gooze (Dinklage). The most impressive look remains that ofElijah Wood, who will play supervillain Fritz Garbinger. The actor’s makeup makes him look strangely like Danny DeVito’s Penguin in Batman: The Challenge (Tim Burton, 1992).

These first exclusive images introduce us to the rest of the cast: Jacob Tremblay (Good Boy ; Wonder) in the role of Winston Gooze’s stepson; Taylor Paige (White Boy Rick) in JJ’s. Doherty and Kevin Bacon as supervillain Bob Garbinger, a chemical tycoon and brother of Fritz Garbinger.

The Toxic Avenger does not yet have a planned release date.
