Poor creatures: Yórgos Lánthimos makes his best start in France

Poor Creatures becomes Yórgos Lánthimos’ biggest success

It is only the second independent Hollywood film to cross the 100 million mark since the health crisis.

If the US box office is still very gloomy, with Bob Marley as a little leader and the flops Madame Web And Argyle lagging behind, everything is fine for Yorgos Lanthimos. Her Poor Creatures has just crossed the $100 million mark at the worldwide box office – including $32.9 million in North America. Which allows the feature film led by Emma Stone to become Lanthimos’ biggest success, doubling its Oscar-winning historical film, The Favoritewhich stopped at $95 million in 2018.

Poor Creatures also does much better than The Lobster (18 million in 2016) and The Killing of the Sacred Deer (11 million in 2017).

While waiting for the Oscars, which should smile on the Greek filmmaker and further boost his box office, Poor Creatures establishes itself as the second arthouse film, only, since COVID, to exceed 100 million dollars, after the A24 hit Everything Everywhere All at Once ($143 million).
