Pussy Island: Zoë Kravitz’s film has a release date, and a new title

Naomi Ackie and Channing Tatum star in this shock thriller denouncing sexism, co-written with ET Feigenbaum (High Fidelity).

Upon the announcement of her first film as a director, Zoë Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road, Big Little Lies, The Batman…) made it known that she intended to tackle a feminist subject head-on, even if it means shocking. Hiring Naomi Ackie (star of the Whitney Houston biopic) and Channing Tatum (after having loved it in Magic Mike) to denounce the way in which billionaires can abuse their power over young girls gathered on an island, she defended her job title, Pussy Island (literally “Cat Island”).

“This title means many things, she explained last summer. I started writing this story in 2017. As a woman in general, and also in this industry, I have seen some pretty wild behavior from the opposite sex. So that title was kind of a joke at first, alluding to this place where guys could go, bring girls, party and get laid. But it also alludes to our times, where we proclaim that we no longer want to live like this, in terms of politics and sexuality. People evolve, things change, but there may remain a bad taste linked to the harmful actions of some in the past. The title refers to that, and at the same time, it’s a playground, like the film which will be a playground in many aspects. I like the fact that this title evokes all of this at once, that there is a real meaning behind it.”

Amazon and MGM Studios have just dated the film to August 23, 2024 (in theaters), but under a different name: Blink Twice. Either “Blink twice.”. No more mention of the female sex, therefore, despite all the meaning that its creator had put into it.

Channing Tatum, however, swears that “the film will be crazy”. Interviewed by Entertainment Weeklythe actor details: “It’s going to be a crazy thriller. I’m playing a darker person than anyone I’ve played before. It’s definitely exploring some very uncomfortable themes, and I don’t want to say too much, but I personally have never played someone like that. It was scary, in fact, because it’s going to make noise when it comes out, that’s for sure. I think people will want to debate it. That’s the goal, in any case. This film is made to take you out of your comfort zone.”

Also worn by Alia Shawkat, Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, Christian Slater, Kyle MacLachlan, and Geena Davis, Blink Twice was co-written by Zoë Kravitz and the screenwriter of her series High Fidelity, AND Feigenbaum.

Channing Tatum wants to remake Ghost: “We have the rights, but we’re going to do it differently”
