Doug Liman will replay the cult series in the cinema, with the star of Bridgerton starring.

Maybe he’s got his chance! Three years after its explosion in The Bridgerton Chronicles, Regé-Jean Page was waiting for a leading role, to allow him to break into Hollywood. After secondary and forgettable appearances in Dungeons & Dragons: Thieves’ Honor Or The Gray Manthe British actor will reprise a cult role in the cinema, that of Simon Templar, aka The Saintthe killer imagined by Leslie Charteris and who made Roger Moore a star, on the small screen (between 1962 and 1969), before being approached to play James Bond.

The Saint returned to the cinema in 1997 in the guise of Val Kilmer (a TV film with Adam Rayner, in 2017, also exists) and Hollywood and the Paramount studio have been circling around a remake project for a while. Chris Pine was to be the new Simon Templar, in a project that ultimately never came to fruition and so it was Regé-Jean Page who will take over the role.

Deadline announces that Doug Limandirector of the first Jason Bourne and more recently Edge of Tomorrowshould realize it.

Charteris’s imagined character is a Robin Hood-style thief and criminal who eliminates shady politicians and other nefarious criminals. For the new film, the plan is to recast the concept in a new light. We don’t yet know which one…

Playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah wrote the first draft of the script. No filming date yet.
