Romain Duris: “The filming of Young Peril was like a vacation”

The film by Cédric Klapisch which revealed the actor returns tonight on TFX.

In May 2017, First met the whole team Young Peril (1994) to talk about the creation of this project, first thought of as an Arte TV movie, but which was finally released in theaters and launched the careers of a good part of its creators by intriguing more than 600,000 spectators. In particular that of Romain Duris, “approached on the street because I had a bit of an extreme look”, remembers the actor. On the occasion of the rebroadcast of the cult film, at 9:05 p.m. on TFX, here are the extracts from his cross interview with Cédric Klapisch, Elodie Bouchez, Vincent Elbaz…

The casting
“At the time, I was in a school of applied arts and I was going to pick up my high school sweetheart. Along the way, Bruno stopped me and told me about the project. I replied that I wanted to read the script. I remember that he found it funny… I was very wary of television, I had grown up without it, I found it vulgar. I was 18 years old, I was radical.

At the time, I was working for a ready-to-wear box, I was piling up swimsuits in boxes, I wanted to go on vacation every five minutes… I had also put together a file to work at S’Pizza 30 and I was waiting for the answer. I was almost pissed off making the movie!”

First casting: Romain Duris, 19, for Le Péril Jeune

Shooting
“We did a lot of tests all together to see if the chemistry worked. I was shy because the tape freaked me out more than anything else at the time. And then, I still didn’t know what the tone would be. and the charm of Young Peril. It was difficult to realize this when reading the script. You have to remember that at the time, television fiction was rotten! But during the work sessions, I began to capture the energy and the truth of the human relationships that emanated from all this.

The shooting was like a vacation: we were dressed up, the music was great… I couldn’t understand how we could be paid for that. We were able to do some bullshit but never anything against the film.”

The cinema outing
“When we learned that The Young Peril would be released in theaters, it was a very happy moment, like everything else.

Since then, Romain Duris has met the director several times: for Everyone is looking for his cat, Maybe, the trilogy The Spanish Inn, Russian Dolls and Chinese Puzzle, and Paris.
