Greta Gerwig’s comedy has just been released in the US, in IMAX, with additional scenes.

In August, while barbie had already crossed the billion dollars in box office revenue, Warner Bros announced that it wanted to offer a new version of the film, exclusively in American IMAX theaters for one week only, with more scenes. This new montage has been visible there since Friday September 22.

Among the bonuses, there are for example excerpts from bloopers, and post-credits sequences, including one featuring Midge (Emerald Fennell), the eternally pregnant doll, finally giving birth. An event commented on by the film’s voiceover, Helen Mirren, who we glimpse for a short moment in the flesh.

Director Greta Gerwig also revealed that she cut one “prouts opera”, an idea of which we get a glimpse in this new version, with Ken (Ryan Gosling) who farts while crossing space. This same character also performs a cover of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”Cindy Lauper’s hit, but replacing “Girls” by “Boys”. While he sings, another Ken played by Kingsley Ben-Adir starts dancing in a ridiculous way, facing a stunned Barbie (Margot Robbie) and two humans (America Ferrera and Ariana Greenblatt)! The studio has not yet officially released the extract.

For now, this version of barbie is only visible in the United States, but it should logically soon be offered on DVD and blu-ray? Across the Atlantic, the film has already been released on VOD, and there too, if the offer is high (around 29 dollars per film), it gives access to a handful of bonuses: thematic making-ofs. One of them is notably devoted to the other flagship song of Gosling’s character, “I’m Just Ken“. Here, the film will be available on VOD in November.
