Ryan Reynolds Doesn’t Want to Make Free Guy 2 and Here’s Why
“Does everything have to have a fucking sequel? I don’t know!”, said the star about his comedy broadcast this evening on M6.
After the great success of Free Guy, which collected $331.5 million worldwide in the summer of 2021, despite the pandemic, Disney imagined a sequel. But Ryan Reynolds repeated several times that he had no intention of filming in Free Guy 2 !
During an appearance in the United Kingdom at the Just For Laughs festival (via Variety), in March 2023, he was, for example, categorical on the issue: “Yes, it would be possible to make a sequel to Free Guy, something that would be fun. That could be cool. But also, does everything have to have a fucking sequel? I don’t know. Sometimes it’s nice to make a movie that kicks ass and then everyone goes home.“

In the process, Ryan Reynolds suggests that the studio insists that Free Guy 2 sees the light of day, but he does not consider this idea of a sequel as an obligation: “It’s true that it’s growing but we must resist the urge to immediately say that a sequel must be made to validate the success of the first. No ! The first movie validates the first movie and you can leave it at that. So I do not know. We’re still talking about it.”
