Sam Worthington teases the resumption of Avatar filming: “It’s bigger than you imagine”

James Cameron has already filmed most of this sequel, as well as scenes from the 4th opus. Here are the details.

At the time of the release of The Way of Water, James Cameron confirmed that his ambition was to shoot five opuses of the saga. Perhaps he will leave his place to another filmmaker to complete the last episodes, but as far as number 3 is concerned, it is he who is in charge. He’s already said he canned most of this sequel, as well as several sequences from the fourth film : since this one will jump in time, he needed shots with the young actors at their current age.

Sam Worthington confirmed this week at People that he will soon return to the New Zealand film sets ofAvatarensuring in passing that the ambition of the next films will be just as exceptional as for the first two parts.

“We’re going back to work in a month, and it’s huge, he said. It’s bigger than you imagine.”

James Cameron must then complete post-production ofAvatar 3 for December 2025, and once this blockbuster is released, it will shoot the scenes “from the future” of n°4. Here is what he detailed on this subject last month: “We captured and filmed in live action the 3 in the continuity ofAvatar 2and we even shot part of the fourth film because all our young actors are going to experience a big time jump in the 4. We see them, then we move forward six years and come back. The return part hasn’t been filmed yet so we’ll start with that after the release of part three“.

Avatar 3 will introduce a new tribe of Na’vis villains, “the people of ashes”, led by a woman named Varang who will be played by Oona Chaplin. Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Jack Champion and the other key actors from the second episode will all return to theaters on December 25, 2025. Afterwards, Avatar 4 should be released at the end of 2029 in cinemas.
