Steven Yeun will play Sentry in the Marvel Universe

Robert Kirkman, the creator of the Invincibles comics, spilled the beans.

Interviewed by the media Culture Crave, Robert Kirkmanthe creator of the comic Invincible and its adaptation into an animated series, released some important information: Steven Yeunthe actor dubbing the character of Invincible in his series, will play the superhero Sentry in the next film Thunderbolts.

My friend Steven Yeun plays Sentry in a movie. He called me to tell me that he had done some costume fittings… I don’t think it’s a spoiler, or that it will put anyone in trouble… I don’t know. We’ll see, I don’t work for Marvel, I don’t care, what are they going to do?” jokes the author.

Kirkman report even a joke of Yeun who would have said to him: “I just got back from a costume fitting for Sentry, I feel like I only play superheroes that are blue and yellow”, in reference to the costume design of his character from Invincible.

Invincible bloodier than ever: the terrible trailer for season 2

Who the hell is Sentry? The character evolved a lot before finding its stable form within the Marvel comics universe. First a robot created in 1967 by Stan Lee And Jack Kirbyhe then takes the appearance of several successive characters (Curtis Elkins, Stewart Ward) to finally stabilize in the guise of Robert Reynolds, the reference character in the comics.

Robert Reynolds/Sentry was created in the 2000s and was presented as a forgotten character from the Golden Age of comics, even Stan Lee didn’t remember anymore. Turns out it was a marketing ploy to draw attention to him. In short: Sentry is a bit like the Superman of the Marvel universe. He has a tight yellow suit, a long blue cape and a big “S” shiny on the belt. Immortal and invulnerable, he can fly at the speed of light, has superhuman strength and a special attack comparable to “the explosion of a million suns”.

Robert Reynolds is a brilliant student suffering from schizophrenia. He becomes a Sentry after ingesting an ultra-improved version of the Super Soldier Serum (elixir which gave birth to Captain America). But his schizophrenia is increased tenfold by the serum and Sentry is born with a dark alter-ego, Void, a super-powered supervillain who kills innocents in proportion to the number of lives saved by Sentry.

According to Comingsoon, Steven Yeun will play the character in the film Thunderbolts, a team of anti-heroes presented successively in Marvel films and series. there will notably be the US Agent (Wyatt Russell) featured in the series Falcon and the Winter SoldierYelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Red Guardian (David Harbor) respectively the sister and father of Black Widow and introduced in the eponymous film, accompanied by Taskmaster (Olga Kuryleynko), by Ghost (Hannah John-Kamenintroduced in Ant-Man and the Wasp) and General Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford), aka Red Hulk. This team will be led by Countess Valentina Alegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and will mark the return of the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).

Directed by Jake Schreier and written by Lee Sung-Jin (who both collaborated on the mini-series Relentless), Thunderbolts was postponed due to the Hollywood strike. It is currently scheduled for July 23, 2025 in theaters.
