The Angoulême Francophone Film Festival unveils its selection

After Les Pires by Lise Akoka and Romane Guéret, which film will receive the Valois de Diamant, grand prize at the Angoulême Festival?

After a more than successful 15th edition (and an increase in attendance), the Francophone Film Festival is making a comeback from August 22nd. The Angoumois festival-goers will celebrate, for 5 days, the Francophonie in the cinema, with this year a special tribute to Swiss cinema, with a selection of feature films where we will be able to find in particular two Godard, Live your life And Detective. And the co-presidents, Marie-France Brière and Dominique Besnehard, unveiled the main lines of the rich program of its 16th edition which should still be completed by a few titles in the coming weeks.

On the competition side, we will find an ode to freedom by the Franco-Algerian Nadir Moknèche in The sea air sets you free; Francis Leclerc’s adaptation of Stéphane Larue’s book (The plunger) on the descent into hell of gambling addiction, Rosalie the story of a woman with a beard in France in 1870, camped by Nadia Tereszkiewicz and noticed in Cannes as well as Le Temps d’aimer by Katel Quillévéré, carried by the duo Anaïs Demoustier-Vincent Lacoste. Two diametrically opposed love stories will also compete in the highly coveted Valois, in The Poet’s Bride by Yolande Moreau and Iris and the men by Caroline Vignal, the director ofAntoinette in the Cevennes (one at the time of the Beaux-Arts, the other based on dating apps). And to this list is also added three first films, including nothing to lose with Virginie Efira as a mother fighting to recover her son placed in a home.

The jury will be chaired by Laetitia Casta, surrounded in particular by Kaouther Ben Hania (Olfa’s Daughters), Quebecer Monia Chokri (Simple as Sylvain) or even – Angoulême, land of comic strips obliges – by the Swiss author Philippe Chapuis (ZEP).

Among the many previews, in addition to the competition, will be screened Visionsthe new film by Yann Gozlan (Black box, An ideal man), but also The Goldman trial by Cédric Kahn who opened La Quinzaine at Cannes. The little by Guillaume Nicloux will open the Festival, in the presence of his actor Fabrice Luchini in the shoes of a bereaved father. And to close this unmissable meeting of French-speaking cinema, Floby Géraldine Danon, will tell the story of navigator Florence Arthaud.
