The author of Gone Girl and Sharp Objects is preparing a new HBO series

Gillian Flynn will make a new adaptation of Dark Places, her novel already brought to the screen, to the cinema, with Charlize Theron, in 2015.

Six years ago, Sharp Objects was a sensation on HBO. Another novel by Gillian Flynn should be ported to the American premium channel. Dark Places is being prepared, by Flynn herself. She will serve as co-creator and co-showrunner on the project, alongside Brett Johnson.

Dark Places was originally published in 2009 and chronicles the fate of Libby Day, who was 7 years old when her mother and two sisters were murdered in the notorious “Satanic Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas” in 1985. She survived and testified that her teenage brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, two “detectives” locate adult Libby and ask her for details, believing Ben to be innocent…

Dark Places had already been adapted into a film in 2015 with Charlize Theron. The American-French crime film written and directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner was not released theatrically in the United States and only grossed $5.1 million at the box office.

No casting or release date has yet been announced.
