The author of The Witcher pays for Netflix and production
“They never listened to me,” laughs Andrzej Sapkowski today.
The life of The Witcher is not a long quiet flower, in the series or behind the scenes. Henry Cavill, often critical of the Netflix adaptation, has thrown in the towel and will soon be replaced by Liam Hemsworth. And now it’s the Polish author Andrzej Sapkowskicreator of the literary saga The Witcher in 1990, and author of nine novels since, who says that production and Netflix did as they pleased!
Interviewed during Vienna Comic Con this week, the writer recounts the day he went to visit the team on the set of the serial adaptation of his books:
“The decor was fantastic. Huge… I took the opportunity to give them some ideas. But they never listened to me. On nothing. That’s normal. After all, who am I? A writer? ‘is nobody!’
A well-felt tackle,Andrzej Sapkowski tempers immediately, explaining that it was the same thing during the development of video games, with the Polish developer CD Projekt Red:
“My raw material when I work is only words. I don’t describe images. I don’t see any photos. I use words only because I know that my reader will only see the words.
