The Boys should go beyond the 5 seasons initially planned by Eric Kripke

The creator of the series returns to his previous comments and does not rule out the possibility of extending it by a few seasons.

This series does not know the “super hero tired“. Since 2019, the adaptation of the comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson has conquered the small screen with a series of humor and hemoglobin, very trashy and gory and which sets the milestones for what society would be like if the heroes dressed in a cape were not there to save the world, but rather to quickly take power. The Boys has become one of Prime Video's flagship series – so much so that it was renewed for a fifth season even before the fourth was released. But for the creator and the studios, the adventure may not end there.

Asked by Reverse, Eric Kripkethe creator of the series, hinted at the possibility that The Boys be extended for a few seasons, although he declared on Twitter in 2020: “I think five is a good number.” Kripke also intended to complete its previous series, supernaturalfive seasons, and there have been 15 !

“I have since learned not to announce a number of seasons knowing that I am, and I say this without exaggeration, literally the most wrong person in the history of entertainment about how many seasons their show would have. Someone pointed this out to me and I said: 'You're right, it's ridiculous. I have to learn to keep quiet. And that's what I will do'.”

He added :

“No one in all of human history was as wrong as I was in speculating about how many seasons this series would need. So I'm not going to make the same mistake again. The record for the stupidest guy to estimate the length of his streak in the Guinness Book of World Records should be illustrated with a photo of me.”

A real hit on Prime Video, The Boys would be extended for creative reasons, and (perhaps) also financial ones. Why end the goose that lays the golden eggs? Although it is often difficult to predict how many seasons a series will have, because the variable is calculated in particular by taking into account the budget allocated to the show and the success encountered, to The Boys, no worries.

Vernon Sanders, executive officer at Amazon, was already teasing for Entertainment Weeklylast year, the possibility of other adventures beyond season 5:

“Eric has an idea that could last for years. (…) So, it may still be a little early to talk about that, but we believe in Eric. And if Eric is interested in continuing, we will be the first on the front line to work with him.”

While waiting to know the future of the series, season 4 will be available on June 13 on Prime Video. The official synopsis details: “The world is on the brink of collapse. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscular thumb of the Protector, who consolidates her power. Butcher, who has only months to live, has lost Becca's son and his position as leader of the Boys. The rest of the team has had enough of his lies.
