The Buccaneers: what we know about season 2

“There are still a lot of things to discover!” Kristine Frøseth and Alisha Boe can’t wait to film the sequel.

After 8 intense episodes between Gilded Age America and Victorian England, season 1 of The Buccaneers has just ended on Apple TV+ (and also Canal+ in France). A final episode centered around Nan’s wedding. So did she say yes? And when is season 2?

For now, Apple TV+ has not yet renewed the costume drama. Kristine Frøseth And Alisha Boe reveal to us that theystill know absolutely nothing about what happens next.”. They specify: “Quite honestly, we don’t yet know if there will be a sequel. But we sincerely hope so.”

The two actresses confirm to Première that there is “lots of exciting things to explore after the season 1 finale, like Nan and Theo’s wedding, Jinny’s baby, the consequences for the Seadowns, the fact that Conchita will forge her own path, without money, but with her husband and child… There are still a whole lot of things to discover in season 2!”

And for good reason: in the last moments of The Buccaneers, Nan married the Duke, to better protect her sister Jinny from her violent husband. She helps him escape while he chases her like crazy. “And he’s not a man to give up easily. He’ll want to know where she is!” assures Katherine Jakeways, the showrunner, in EW. She still reassures: “Jinny has Guy Thwarte by her side, and he will take care of her. But it won’t be easy. Jinny carries James’ child. At that time, it was considered theft for a woman to run away with a child, born or unborn. It belongs to her husband, so she will be in danger both from the law and the authorities and from James…”

As for Nan, her life will always be complicated if season 2 of The Buccaneers see the day. “She now has this duty towards her husband. She is obliged to him. Marriage is for life when you marry a Duke. The Dowager will absolutely ensure that Nan stays in line and does not harm the institution. Nan had feelings for Theo, and Theo is not a cruel man. It’s not a bad choice for her. But that’s definitely not where his heart is. It’s hard not to think that this will be hard for her. Will she choose Guy in the end? Or will she choose Theo?”

For Première, the actress Kristine Frøseth shares his personal choice with us: “Honestly, neither! I think Nan should choose to be single! I don’t think she should choose one or the other. Because she’s at a point in her life where she reacts impulsively to things that happen to her. They are in rebellion. Nan should step aside. Take the time to breathe, ask yourself the right questions and ask yourself what you want for your life to come. Maybe in the end, Guy or Theo will be the one for her. But already, she needs to take stock in her head. She is still young. All these girls are still very young deep down…”
